“The heart is deceitful above all things and beyond cure. Who can understand it?” — Jeremiah 17:9
Perdita lives alone in a quiet house surrounded by forest. Or so it seems. Occasionally, distant villagers send her provisions. But otherwise, she is cut off—physically, emotionally, spiritually. Her only company is Morana, a cold and cryptic woman whose presence seems both maternal and malevolent. Somewhere beyond the trees, a voice calls to her: a man named Warin, urging her to resist Morana’s lull and remember something she has forgotten. Told through a non-sequential structure and laced with dream logic, The Thistle’s Dirge is a surreal morality tale about addiction, self-deception, and the treacherous landscape of the human heart. Steeped in symbolism, Biblical truth, and folk horror tradition, this is one Christian’s exploration of the spiritual and psychological fracture between what we want and what is true.
